Big IdeasWe experience life through the things we see, and learn from those experiences. Therefore, visual art should be a primary part of any child’s education. I believe it is my job as a teacher to help children understand not only what they see, but how these things come to exist in the world (by way of artists and designers), and how these things influence and inspire us. Now more than ever, we see that art matters and allows us to connect to other areas of learning, and to each other.
My philosophy aims to help students grow both in and out of the classroom. Each day is filled with opportunities to experience new educational, social, and emotional situations. |
"Your own reasons to make art are enough.
Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart."
Elizabeth Gilbert
Form & FunctionI try to create a setting where I can help guide students in exploring the information and the world around them. I feel my role is to instill in students that a knowledge of the arts is valuable and powerful.
This means creating a classroom environment where expectations are set by students, guided by the teacher, and exceeded by each other. I aim to maintain a space where children feel safe and valued for who they are, not what they produce, yet are consistently encouraged to create and explore visual art. My goal is for students to enjoy and understand the process of creating, and for them to transfer this knowledge throughout their lives. |
